Joy Williams is an Award- Winning Celebrity Hairstylist, the Creative Director of Joy Williams Beauty and the owner of both JW Studios, a Premiere Multicultural Salon, and JWB Academy, which provides both Hands-On and Virtual Makeup and Haircare Education to licensed and aspiring professionals in the beauty industry. She is also an Herbalist and owns Joy + Soul Apothecary, an all-natural body and haircare line A Published Beauty Writer, Joy's articles can be found in American Salon magazine, Oprah Magazine, Insider Magazine, Cosmopolitan Magazine, Martha Stewart and more! Most recently, Joy worked as Assistant Hairstylist at New York Fashion Week for the Fall/Winter Shows and will return as Key Hairstylist for The Lab NYFW in September 2023. Joy was named Hairstylist of the Year 2021 by the Texture Style Awards, the first ever award competition focusing on stylists that do ALL textures of hair! Joy is also a Collaborative Coach for Texture vs. Race (tvrcollaborative.com) an inclusive initiative that focuses on equality of education for ALL stylists in the beauty industry.
Before launching out on her own, Joy was an Executive Master Educator and Master Platform Artist for Farouk Systems for over 5 years and was the first Black Woman On- Air Personality for CHI Haircare on the Home Shopping Network. Joy has the versatility to work with all hair types and textures and is a Texture, Color and Extension Specialist. Joy has freelanced as a Senior Hair Stylist for several beauty teams and was a Lead Stylist at Miss Universe 2019. She has been hired repeatedly as a Lead Hair Stylist for the Miss USA and Miss Teen USA Pageants since 2019. Joy has worked with the last 3 Miss USA winners in a row, (2019-2021) and was the stylist behind our beloved Cheslie Kryst's gorgeous winning hair! A consummate Educator, she has trained thousands of other professional stylists and students both in the US and Internationally! She brings with her a flare for knowledge and the ability to break down education in a practical way while encouraging and elevating each individual she comes into contact with.
Joy is a Certified Trichology Practitioner and frequently works with clients experiencing severe hair trauma such as alopecia and chemotherapy. Her true calling was realized while studying Government/Pre-Law at The University of Texas at Austin. Consequently, she attended and excelled at Paul Mitchell the School in 2008. She then started her full-time career in the beauty industry working backstage at pageants, fitness competition and fashion shows. Joy also has worked backstage at New York Fashion Week. She and her team provide hair and makeup services for film and television production, runway shows and pageants, editorial and commercial shoots, local and destination weddings and much more! Joy has received numerous awards and honors including a Certificate of Congressional Recognition for Health and Beauty by Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee and is an award recipient of the Top 40 under 40- The Next Generation of Leaders.
In her personal time, Joy lends herself to various charity and volunteer opportunities. She has volunteered at Dress for Success in various positions and has even held classes for Professional Women's Group, a branch of Dress for Success, teaching how to do hair and makeup looks for the office. She regularly hosts vision board and dream casting workshops as well as does Motivational Speaking programs for women and girls. Joy is a Spiritual Teacher and helps guide others to soul healing and integration through meditation, breathwork as well as products and remedies through her Apothecary.
